Achang Ethnic Minorityhe Achang Ethnic Minority has a population of 27,708, gathering mainly in Longchuan, Lianghe countries in Dehong Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in south-westen Yunnan Procince. There are also a small number of them scattered in Yingjiang, Luxi and Ruili countries and Longteng and Tengchong in Baoshan area. Achang people have their own spoken language. Because they have lived in a mixed society with Han and Dai, most Achang can speak Chinese and Dai language. The Achang ethnic minorities has no written script and Chinese is widely used. their ancestors used to live in the area near the Jinsha, Lancang and Nu Rivers. In about 13 th centuries, they settled down in the district they live now. they learned rice planting and forging iron from Han frontier soldiers. They live on agriculture and handicraft industries form another important aspect of the economy of the Achang ethnic minority. Their handicraft industry is developed. Achang people have a rich heritage of singing ballads and telling folk tales. It is through thesesongs and stories that the Achang culture and history are passed down from generation to generation. |
